Terms of Service

These Terms govern access to and use of Project Beacon during its Beta. They should be read together with the Privacy Policy and the Community Standards & Safety Policy.

Project Beacon operates from Ontario, Canada.

Terms of Service V2.0 · Final V2.0 Version (Beta) · Version date: 21 August 2026

1. About These Terms

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Project Beacon (“Beacon,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) governing your access to and use of Project Beacon, including its website, member features, Beta services, and related functionality.

By creating or using a Beacon account, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy and Community Standards & Safety Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Beacon.

Beacon is currently in Beta. The service, features, eligibility requirements, and availability may change as we learn from the Beta and continue developing the platform.

2. Eligibility and Closed Beta Access

You must be at least 18 years old to use Beacon. Beacon currently relies on member self-attestation of age and does not independently verify age as part of ordinary signup.

Beacon is currently offered as a limited Closed Beta. Access may require an invitation and may be subject to capacity, eligibility, technical, safety, or other reasonable restrictions determined by Beacon.

Receiving an invitation does not guarantee permanent or uninterrupted access to Beacon. Invitations may expire, be withdrawn where appropriate, or become unavailable if Beta capacity or access requirements change.

You must provide a reachable email address and complete the authentication and profile-setup steps required to use Beacon.

3. Your Beacon Account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for activity that occurs through it. Do not share, sell, transfer, or allow another person to use your account.

You may use the authentication methods Beacon makes available, which currently include Google sign-in and email/password authentication.

You must provide information that is reasonably accurate and must not impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity, or create an account for deceptive or abusive purposes.

Beacon may restrict the creation or use of accounts that violate these Terms or the Community Standards & Safety Policy.

4. Project Beacon Services

Beacon is designed to help adult gamers discover and connect with other gamers. Features may include profiles, game and platform information, Gamer DNA, Beacon Fit or other matching tools, Connections, favourites, private messaging, blocking, reporting, and related community features.

Features may be added, changed, limited, renamed, tested, or removed during the Beta. Nothing in these Terms guarantees that a particular feature will remain available.

5. Gamer DNA, Beacon Fit and Member Discovery

Gamer DNA, Beacon Fit, recommendations, discovery tools, and similar features are intended to help members find people they may enjoy gaming with. They are informational tools, not guarantees.

Beacon does not guarantee compatibility, match quality, identity, conduct, availability, skill level, or suitability of another member. You are responsible for deciding who you interact or play with and for using appropriate judgment when communicating with people you meet through Beacon.

6. Connections, Messaging and Blocking

Beacon may allow members to connect, disconnect, favourite, message, or block other members according to the permissions and controls available in the service.

Private messages are not continuously monitored by Beacon as part of ordinary use. However, when a safety report is submitted, Beacon may preserve and review relevant information or evidence as described in the Community Standards & Safety Policy and Privacy Policy.

Blocking and other member controls are intended to help manage interactions, but no technical feature can guarantee that unwanted contact or conduct will never occur.

7. Community Standards and Member Conduct

Your use of Beacon is subject to the Community Standards & Safety Policy, which forms part of the rules for using the service.

You must not use Beacon to harass, threaten, stalk, exploit, defraud, impersonate, discriminate against, or otherwise harm another person; expose another person’s private information without permission; distribute malicious or unlawful content; misuse Beacon’s reporting or safety systems; or attempt to circumvent an enforcement decision.

The Community Standards & Safety Policy contains the fuller description of Beacon’s conduct expectations, reporting options, safety practices, and enforcement approach. If there is a difference in detail between a general conduct statement in these Terms and the Community Standards & Safety Policy, the more specific Community Standards & Safety Policy governs member conduct.

8. Member-Created Content

You retain ownership of content you submit to Beacon, subject to any rights held by others in that content.

You give Beacon a limited, non-exclusive permission to host, store, process, reproduce, display, and otherwise use your content as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, moderate, improve, and provide the service. This permission is limited to the purposes of operating Beacon and does not transfer ownership of your content to Beacon.

You are responsible for content you submit and must have the right to submit it.

Deleting your account does not necessarily erase every piece of information associated with your prior use immediately. For example, messages you sent may remain visible in another member’s conversation with your identity removed, and certain safety, reporting, enforcement, or legal records may be retained for the periods described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Feedback

You may choose to provide ideas, suggestions, bug reports, comments, or other feedback about Beacon. You agree that Beacon may use that feedback to evaluate, develop, improve, and operate Project Beacon without an obligation to compensate you.

This does not give Beacon ownership of unrelated content or intellectual property you provide outside the context of feedback about Beacon.

10. Safety, Reporting and Enforcement

Beacon provides reporting and safety tools to help members raise concerns. Use the in-app Report feature when available because it can preserve relevant information with the report. Additional safety contact options are described on Beacon’s Help & Safety page and in the Community Standards & Safety Policy.

Beacon may review reports, relevant evidence, account information, and prior enforcement history when evaluating potential violations. Reporting a member does not guarantee a particular outcome.

Beacon may take reasonable action to protect members, the service, or others, including warnings, restrictions, temporary suspension, indefinite suspension, or termination of access where appropriate.

Not every violation receives the same response. Enforcement may consider context, severity, repeated conduct, safety risk, available evidence, and other relevant circumstances.

11. Temporary and Indefinite Suspension

Beacon may temporarily suspend access for a defined period or indefinitely suspend access where the circumstances warrant it. A member may contact Beacon Support to request review of an enforcement decision.

A request for review is not a formal tribunal or a guarantee that an enforcement decision will be changed.

Attempting to return through another account in order to circumvent an indefinite suspension is prohibited and may result in further enforcement. Beacon’s handling of limited enforcement-related information after account deletion is described in the Privacy Policy and Community Standards & Safety Policy.

12. Account Deletion and Leaving Beacon

You may delete your Beacon account using the account controls Beacon provides.

Account deletion removes your active Beacon account and profile information, subject to the retention practices described in the Privacy Policy. Certain information may remain after deletion where necessary to preserve conversations, maintain safety and enforcement records, comply with retention requirements, resolve disputes, or protect Beacon and its members.

If you previously participated in the Closed Beta and later delete your account, you do not automatically regain Beta access by creating another account. You may be required to apply again and receive a new invitation, subject to the Beta rules in effect at that time.

13. Privacy and Data

Beacon’s collection, use, disclosure, retention, and deletion of personal information are described in the Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy is the primary source for detailed information about Beacon’s data practices.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to shorten a retention period, expand a data use, or otherwise override the Privacy Policy.

14. Project Beacon Intellectual Property

Project Beacon’s software, interface, visual design, original text and graphics, logos, branding, and other Beacon-created materials are owned by Beacon or used with permission and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

These Terms give you a limited right to access and use Beacon for its intended personal purposes while your account is permitted to access the service. They do not give you ownership of Beacon’s software, branding, or other intellectual property.

You may not copy, sell, license, reverse engineer, exploit, or commercially use Beacon’s proprietary materials except where permitted by law or with Beacon’s written permission.

Names, logos, games, platforms, and other materials belonging to third parties remain the property of their respective owners. Their appearance on Beacon does not imply sponsorship or endorsement unless expressly stated.

15. Third-Party Services

Beacon may rely on or interact with third-party services, including authentication, hosting, communications, game-information, and infrastructure providers. Your use of a third-party service may also be subject to that provider’s own terms and policies.

Beacon is not responsible for third-party services that it does not control. Information about service providers that process personal information for Beacon is described in the Privacy Policy.

16. Beta Service and Changes to Beacon

Beacon is Beta software and is provided for testing, learning, and ongoing development. You may encounter bugs, incomplete features, errors, interruptions, or changes in how the service works.

We may add, modify, suspend, test, or discontinue features or parts of Beacon. We may also change Beta capacity, access requirements, or eligibility rules.

Where a change materially affects these Terms or requires additional member agreement, Beacon may provide notice or request updated consent as appropriate.

17. Service Availability

Beacon does not guarantee that the service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or compatible with every device, browser, platform, game, or third-party service.

We may temporarily restrict or suspend access for maintenance, security, legal, operational, or safety reasons.

18. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Beacon is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Beacon makes no warranty that the service will meet every member’s expectations, produce a particular match or relationship outcome, or operate without interruption or error.

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, conditions, rights, or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable law.

19. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Beacon is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or similar losses arising from use of or inability to use the service, including losses resulting from interactions with other members or third-party services.

Beacon does not control the conduct of members outside the actions it can reasonably take within the service, and members remain responsible for their own interactions and decisions.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where doing so would be prohibited by applicable law.

20. Responsibility for Your Use of Beacon

You are responsible for your use of Beacon, your content, and your interactions with other members. You agree not to misuse the service or knowingly cause Beacon to violate the rights of another person or applicable law.

Where permitted by applicable law, you are responsible for losses or claims caused by your unlawful use of Beacon, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of another person’s rights.

This section is intended to allocate responsibility for a member’s own conduct and does not limit rights or protections that cannot lawfully be waived.

21. Changes to These Terms

Beacon may update these Terms as the service develops, including during the Beta.

When changes are material, Beacon may provide notice through the service, by email, or by another reasonable method. We may ask members to accept updated Terms before continuing to use Beacon where appropriate.

The version date shown at the beginning of these Terms identifies the current published version.

22. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Subject to any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be restricted, disputes relating to these Terms or Beacon will be addressed in the courts of Ontario, Canada.

Before starting formal proceedings, you and Beacon are encouraged to contact one another and make a reasonable effort to resolve the issue informally where appropriate.
